Washing Indigo Dyed Fabric
You have dyed your fabric in indigo. It looks fabulous! How do you wash it? It's simple.
Step 1
Rinse your fabric under running water until it runs (more or less) clear.
Step 2
Fill a bucket with water (enough for your fabric to flow freely) and about a half cup of white vinegar. Water is cold or room temperature. Soak your fabric for about 15 minutes. This neutralizes the fabric from the alkaline indigo dye and brightens the dye results.
Step 3
Wash your indigo-dyed fabric on its own in a washing machine with gentle soap. Any Free and Clear detergent works well. You can also use a small amount of Dr. Bronner's, or Marseilles soap.
That's it!
After your fabric is washed, you can mix it in future washes with like colors. It is safe to go in the dryer. Indigo is arguably the most stable of all natural dyes, but to ensure the color, avoid extended sun exposure.
