Summer of Dyes: Natural Dye Retreat
Natural Dye Workshops
Enjoy two thorough and fun natural dye classes! We will dive into natural indigo and resist techniques and explore the natural dye properties and colors of plants.
Our first workshop day will be focused on natural indigo dyeing, and our second workshop day will dive into immersion dyeing with mordant dyes (reds, yellows... we will make a rainbow!), as well as the effects of different mordants and tannins.
All workshop materials are included, but you are encouraged to bring your own natural fiber items to dye.
The Space
Our retreat space is surrounded by open fields, woods, the Monocacy River, and an excellent view of Sugarloaf Mountain.
We have a limited number of bedrooms available for out of town guests. You may book a private king bedroom with your own bathroom, a private full bedroom or a twin bedroom with shared bathroom.
If you have any questions about the accommodation, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
"Kristin was incredibly knowledgeable, and I learned a great deal. The venue was beautiful, and I must say the catered lunches were outstanding! Overall, we had a great time and are now encouraged to attempt some dyeing on our own and expand our fabric knowledge. I would highly recommend Kristin and her classes."

What's In Store
You'll spend both days deeply immersed in natural dyeing: moving between indigo vats, learning resist techniques, then shifting into the spectrum of plant dyes and watching a whole rainbow emerge! The results have a way of surprising even experienced dyers.
In between, there's open Maryland farmland, a river walk if you want it (and a swim, if the day calls for it), and long lunches made from local ingredients. It's the kind of weekend where you go home with arms full of dyed cloth and a head full of new ideas and some new friends.
- Two full natural dye workshop days
- All workshop materials included - bring your own natural fiber pieces to dye too
- Optional plant walk and foraging tips
- Optional riverwalk and swim
- Catered lunches both days; dinner and breakfast included for overnight guests
"I had a wonderful time. Beautiful setting, wonderful vibe and people, delicious food. I learned so much! Kristin is an excellent instructor and host. I would do this again in a heartbeat!"
