Make a Tote: Cyanotype, Bundle Dye and Sewing Workshop
A special 3-part workshop
Saturday, February 1, 9am - 5pm
Frederick, MD
Three Workshops in One
Join us for a hands-on creative workshop where you’ll learn three unique textile techniques taught by artists seasoned in their craft: cyanotype printing, bundle dyeing, and sewing. Perfect for beginners and seasoned makers alike, this workshop blends artistic expression with practical skills and you’ll leave with a one of a kind bag that you made yourself.
What we'll cover
Part 1: Cyanotype Printing with Jamie Gerhold
Discover the magic of cyanotype, a photographic process that creates striking blue-toned prints using sunlight or UV lights and objects. You’ll learn step by step how to use this process on fabric to create prints your own.
Part 2: Bundle Dyeing with Kristin Arzt
Learn the art of bundle dyeing with natural plant based dyes! Using materials like food scraps, flowers, leaves and more, you’ll create organic patterns on cotton canvas. This workshop covers fabric prep, dye placement, pattern design wrapping and stovetop steaming to bring your creations to life.
Part 3: Sewing Your Tote Bag with Becky Jane Onderdonk
Bring your custom fabrics to life by sewing them into a stylish, functional tote bag. Step-by-step guidance will help you create a durable, reversible bag perfect for carrying your creations or daily essentials.
